FAQs
What is First Five Hawaiʻi?
First Five Hawaiʻi is a place to learn about resources for families as well as early childhood development. You can learn more on our About page. The information on firstfivehawaii.org is kept up-to-date by the Executive Office on Early Learning (EOEL).
How can I find more information on child care and pre-school?
Can I still use First Five Hawaiʻi if my child or some of my children are over the age of 5?
First Five Hawaiʻi was made for children ages 0-5 and their families, but many programs on First Five Hawaiʻi do not have age requirements or may also serve older children. Just enter the older child’s date of birth to see programs they or your family may be eligible for, such as TANF/TAONF, Med-QUEST or SNAP.
Are there any costs associated with your services or programs?
No, all of our programs, resources, and events are free for families. Our goal is to make early childhood resources accessible for everyone in Hawaiʻi.
Does this website share my income or other info with the government?
First Five Hawaiʻi only shares contact information (name and email) with the programs for which you may be eligible so the agency is able to follow up.
I take care of my grandchildren. Can I still get help?
Yes! If you’re taking care of a child, even if you’re not their birth parent, there are programs and services that can help the child in your care.
What is the Eligibility Screener Tool?
The screener tool on the First Five Hawaiʻi website helps families find programs and services that they may qualify for. Just enter your contact info, zip code, the child’s birthday and your family’s monthly income. Then you can see what help you might get!
